Health and Safety Guidance

Be aware of your surroundings

  • Uneven surfaces, sloping ground, tree roots can be a trip hazard especially when stepping back.

  • Do not work on slopes or hard to reach places.

  • Do not enter waterways, no matter how tempting.

  • Keep your work area as tidy as possible to avoid injury to you or others

  • If the weather is inclement, take extra care.

 

Always wear suitable PPE

  • Stout footwear & safety gloves for all tasks

  • MiB HiViz tabards at all times

  • Goggles & hardhats where required.

 

Use appropriate equipment

  • Ensure tools are suitable for the task. Don’t use unfamiliar tools without training.

  • Use litterpickers to reach hard to reach places.

  • Use wheelbarrows or litter trollies to move heavy items (and don’t overload).

  • Be aware of hazardous litter & dispose in an appropriate manner. Always use gloves & poo bags to collect dogwaste. Only pick up sharp items when wearing stout gloves.

 

Team work

  • Don’t work alone – if you are working alone make sure someone knows where you are.

  • Share any heavy tasks, or tasks that may bear additional risk.

  • Be aware of the safety of others working around you, always store equipment in a safe manner.

  • Know where the firstaid kits & hand sanitizer are stored – or take to site. There is a defibrillator at M&S.
